If you have a pair of unwanted jeans lying around and you don't really know how to get rid of it, you can always make it into a pair of ripped denim shorts. It's really easy to do, with just a few simple steps you can transform

STEP 1: Take a pair of unwanted jeans and mark out the desired length with a marker.

STEP 2: Cut the jeans according to your guides.

STEP 3: Throw it into the washing machine.

The ends will 'season' and become loose the more you wash it.

STEP 4: Use a card to scratch the ends.

This will create a more ideal ripped effect.

You can also rip the pockets and belt loops to have a complete ripped look.

There you have it, your new pair of denim ripped shorts!

Today, I was at Chinatown's first ever Visitor Centre opening at Kreta Ayer Square. The visitor centre is specially designed for walking tours to help visitors rediscover Chinatown.

It's my third visit to Chinatown within this month and I'm starting to fall in love with the place. The rich culture, the bustling atmosphere, the cheap shopping, the authentic food, the friendly people, and so much more! Chinatown is so huge that having a tour guide is the best solution for you to explore it entirely. You'll be impressed with the shopping and dinning choices!

Inside the Visitor Center:

The Visitor Center is like a mini gallery. There were information introducing the history and origins of samsui women, fortune tellers, letter writers and many more. I was very impressed with the interior and graphics that made up the entire atmosphere. Usually people would relate Chinatown as old and boring but it's definitely fun in the Visitor Center. Everything is well designed!!

In the Visitor Center, you can expect young volunteer ambassadors to share with you the rich culture of Chinatown, helping visitors with their queries. From Chinese myths and taboos to dialect clans and heritage brands, the tours are designed to give visitors a taste of the real Chinatown with a complete experience. Many merchandises are up for sale too!

Informative story boards themed "Old Chinatown" , reminds visitors of it's historical significance and flavor.

Even the lighting were detailedly designed to give a nostalgic flavor to the interior.

Informative brochures to guide you along your tour around Chinatown.

If you didn't know, I'm an art teacher!!
Each time I tell someone that, their first reaction is 'omg so fun!!'.
It was fun at first, but right now the kids just totally drains me out. Its a nightmare when the clock strikes nine and the kids just come running in.

Today, this little primary two boy surprised me with his drawing talents!!
I was still drawing shapes in primary two and he can duplicate the flower almost exactly the same.
Can't deny I was a little bit bias toward him.

For those of you who has previously asked me about the design courses in Nanyang poly, here are some of my honest opinions.

I came from Industrial design, more commonly known as Product Design, it's similar to Design & Technology that you have in Secondary School. It sounds more of a boy's course because there are a lot 3-dimensional visualizing and model making involved. Girls would probably worry about having their manicures scratched! As product designers have to work very closely with engineers, there are a lot of engineering based modules. Most of our lectures are also engineers and they like to give honest feedback in a direct manner.

Despite all the scary moments mentioned, I've never once regretted joining Industrial Design at NYP.

In the first two year of the course, there are modules like colour studies, advertising, typography, model making and perspective drawing. I've got the best of both worlds absorbing skills of Visual Communication as well as Industrial design. I was always very curious about how things are manufactured. The engineering videos that my lecturer showed us really blown me away. It explains how small items like coins to big machines like cars are manufactured. I was also thankful that my lecturers prepared me for the real design world out there. On my very first week of advertising job, I got screamed at by my boss in front of all my colleagues. I felt really upset at first, but I learnt to be stronger. I absolutely miss design school at NYP

If you have been following my tweets, you'd realise I've been mentioning a lot about the Last Man Standing event happening at Clark Quay. The idea behind the Last Man Standing event is to encourage party goers that finishing the night sober by avoiding alcohol has it's rewards, which they will find out at the end of the night.
A fun night out doesn't mean getting drunk in alcohol, it's about the experience spent with your friends and families. Whether you choose to drink or not, keep it within a limit, and you'll get to keep your self-dignity.

I remember my awful experiences of wobbly legs, puking over my friend's feet, getting into senseless fights and replying text that doesn't make any sense. I never want that to happen again!!

After not drinking for a long time, I've decided to give the Breathalyser a test! Located outside Zirca.

Attended the event with two lovely ladies.

I was kinda bored this afternoon so photographed every step of my makeup from bared to full mask. Oh by the way for those who asked about the iPhone 4s camera, it's awesome. The post below this one (Education Fair 2011) was entirely taken by my iphone camera cause I forgot to bring the memory card for my camera and thankfully the iPhone camera is god damn good.

Went to Orchard for my dental appointment all alone, think I'm growing up. If you've been reading my blog for a long long time, think I've mention once or twice about how dependent I am on other people. My current everyday attire consist of just a tank top, shorts, slippers and a tote bag. Lazy lazy :))

The Singapore Polytechnic Education Fair was held few days back, as mentioned on my previous blogpost. I decided to drop by with a friend to learn more about the different degree programmes offered in Singapore.

The Education Fair consists of two levels, covering most of the universities in Singapore. If you're in a dilemma, not knowing which university to choose for the next step of your education path, visiting a education fair would be the best idea. There were seminars from NTU, SMU, SUTD, NUS and SIT for you to sit in and clear doubts.

Spotted SIT at the education fair again. After holding a few conversations with some of the professors of SIT, I got to learn more about their degree programmes, especially engineering.

Introducing the University of Glasgow:

Attending the SIT seminar:

I believe that the seminar will clear all your doubts and provide very single detail about the course. I took down two pages of notes just from this 30 minute talk.

Let me share with you what I have gathered from this seminar.

In UOG, the Mechanical Design Engineering and Mechatronics programmes last for 2 years with Honours. This means that when you graduate from UOG, you not only graduate with a degree cert but also with honours. Compared to other universities, courses like this takes 4 years to complete, but in UOG, it only requires 2 years to get a the same degree as your professors!

Within the 2 years in UOG, you get to study a whole range of curriculum to prepare you for the work industry. There is also a Overseas Immersion Program in Britain that last for 4 weeks at the end of your first year. Traveling overseas for education allows students to interact with their professors and colleagues, also learn what education life is like in their home campus. The whole Overseas Immersion Program cost approximately $8k to $9k that includes, air fair, accommodation and expenses.

School fees for the Degree Program:

If you are worried about the tuition fees, SIT allow you to deduct the tuition fee from CPF! All tuition fees are set by MOE.

The requirements for admission are listed in the brochures and catalogues but during the seminar, it was specifically mentioned that do not let your GPA points be a barrier to apply for this SIT courses as there will be an interview held for every applicant. Screening students beforehand is very important, as they would like to look for individuals who are not only keen in engineering but also able to hold responsibilities. There is no age limit for applicants, all are free to apply!

As for guys who are attending the National Service soon, it is advised to do a registration at the last year of your polytechnic program before you enlist. SIT will secure a place for you after you are done with your national service and tuition fees will be the same as the year you registered on.

For further subsidy, scholarships and bonds are also available for you to apply. It is mentioned in the seminar that not only top students get scholarships, so don't let a GPA score affect your decision in applying! Further loans and bursary are available too.

Are you in your final year of your polytechnic course? Are you feeling lost, not knowing what will your next step be?

Don't Worry! Cause you're not alone. Every adolescent has to take this step in his or her life, which is choosing the next career or education path. I was once afraid to take the next step, totally clueless and there was no guidance. Good thing for you guys, the polytechnics hold annual career fairs for students to find out more about further education and job opportunities. I had the chance to attend NYP’s Career & University Fair last Friday and it was a really pleasant experience!

Massive crowd who attended:

One of the many booths that caught my attention was the Singapore Institute of Technology as it has a wide range of courses to choose from. SIT is publicly-funded institute that seeks to provide an industry-focused university education in partnership with local polytechnics and reputable overseas universities to produce highly desired graduates for growth sectors of the economy.

Professor Tan Chin Tiong is the President of SIT. He was a founding member of SMU and was Provost and Deputy President. He spent 20 years of his career at NUS where he was head of the School of Management, Chairman of Executive Programs of the Faculty of Singapore Executive Program and Director of the NUS Office for Continuing Education. He has even co-authored marketing textbooks with Philip Kohler! With such an esteemed leader at the helm of SIT, the students are assured of an unforgettable education path.

My favorite would have to be the interactive digital media degree programs. Digital media is an up and coming industry, most recently seen when Lucasfilm, and Double Negative set up shop here in Singapore. In Singapore, as an urbanized country, there is an increased demand for visual effects specialists and designers. Interactive Digital Media is everywhere; digital simulation, 3D-graphics, rendering, and game design, there’s a never ending list of what the degree programs with DigiPen can offer.

In this tutorial, I'll be teaching you how to do this effect:

Step 1:

Insert picture into photoshop

Step 2:

Unlock layer

to unlock later, double click on 'lock' icon circled in red

Step 3:

Duplicate layer

to duplicate layer, drag layer 0 to new layer icon

Step 4:

Reduce duplicate layer opacity to 80%

Step 5:

On your duplicate layer, select your Move Tool, hold only 'Shift' key, and press 'left arrow' key

To do more layers, repeat steps 3-5.

Step 6:

Save as JPEG in RGB colour and upload to where ever you want!

Dinosaurs Live! Exhibition
I was so excited for Dinosaurs Live! exhibition at the science centre. When I first saw the advertisement on TV, I told my boyfriend he have to visit it with me! Thankfully, I was invited to the exhibition, really made my day. Anyway, here are some pictures of what you can expect at the exhibition.

My favorite part of the whole exhibition was the Omni IMAX Theatre 'Flying Monsters' exhibition.

I love watching documentaries and this one is extremely interesting. It explains how reptiles like lizards develop wings and slowly evolving into flying reptiles that are of the same size as giraffes. The computer graphics are very realistic and the explanations are clearly drafted for us to understand. I could sit there for ten hours just listening to how other dinosaurs evolve. If you like science and evolution, I would highly recommend you to go for this, extremely worth watching.

We proceeded to the Fire Tornado Show.
I am still quite curious of how they create the tornado. There was quite a commotion when the fire was lit, couldn't hear the lady speaking clearly. :( But it was really cool!

The part that I was really excited for! Which is visiting the Dinosaurs Live! Exhibition.
Models of life size dinosaurs! I highly recommend you to visit this too. There's a lot to learn through this exhibition. The models of the life size dinosaurs are made so realistically, everything was so detailed and well done. Even the plants was design closely according to the dinosaur era.

Did you know that paleontologist have totally no idea of how dinosaurs sound like or even the right colour of their skin. They can only make comparisons to the current animals and making assumptions!

Life size replica of a real dinosaur fossil. Even it's fractured scars on the bones can be seen.

Since young, I love visiting the science centre. There's so many interactions throughout the whole journey. Good news is, there's a new area at the Science Centre!! It's called Inventions. Remember to visit it!

ALL RISE

Saturday night, after a long day of teaching, I was so exhausted but nothing could stop me from catching Blue live! Not exactly a huge fan of them now but back then in Secondary school, they were sucha huge hit. I bought all their albums and which ever magazine containing their posters. It's nice that I finally get to see my teenage favorite singers in person. I wonder if I'll ever get to see The Killers in the next few years since they've already split.
